Select any of the 14 channels by pushing thechannel up or down buttons.Select Main Channel (1-14)Turn on the microTALK 2-Way Radio.Operation5SelectChannelNoteUnits must be on samechannel and subcode tocommunicate.NoteChannels 8-12 generallyare less used and give bet-ter results for communica-tions in most areas.NotePush and hold the channelbutton for fast channeladvance.Operation4NoteTo learn more about therange of your microTALK,see page 9.Range is dependent on battery condition and geographic terrain.Auto SquelchMaximumRangeExtender21Maximum Range ExtenderAuto Squelch can be temporarily removed to allowall signals to enter (Maximum Range Extender).Auto SquelchYour microTALK is equipped with Auto Squelch,which automatically shuts off weak transmissionsand unwanted noise due to terrain conditions orif you have reached your range limit.1Push and hold LIGHT/MAX RANGE button to allow all signals to enter.Auto MonitorAuto MonitorWhen the signal you want to hear is consistentlyweak,you may place the radio in Maximum Range mode without having to constantly holdthe button: Press and hold the Maximum RangeExtender button for five seconds.Two beeps confirm Auto Monitor is on. To return to normaloperation,momentarily press the Maximum RangeExtender button again or change channels.NoteSelecting a CTCSS subcode will allow you toonly hear conversations onthat selection. Operation9Operation8Lock FunctionNoteTo achieve maximum range the auto squelch can be overridden. Refer toMaximum Range Extendersection on page 4.microTALKRangeNoteCall button, Range Extender button and Talkbutton do not lock and arefully operational while theunit is locked.The unit cannot lock whilein function mode.Lock FunctionThe purpose of the LOCK function is to lock mostbuttons to avoid accidental operation.To engage the LOCK function:microTALK RangeYour micro TALK Radio has a range of up to2 miles.This effective range can be shortened under some conditions.Push and hold Lock     button untilflashes.Channel up/down and Mode buttonsare now locked. An audible tone will also con-firm lock function.To“unlock”push and hold Lock      button until     disappears.121. Under flat,openconditions you will experiencethe microTALK’smaximum range.2.
